Megelevenedik a poén
Dunkleosteus kinézetét és testméretét nem ismerjük. Olyan felvetés is volt, hogy angolnához hasonló hosszú testtel rendelkezett. Van egy elfogadott dolog, hogy “szabályos” hal formája volt ezzel arányos mérettel. Illetve volt egy poén, hogy mi van ha szinte csak fej volt az állat. E publikáció ehhez a humoros dologhoz közelít a felvetésével. Így a legnagyobb ismert egyed 4,1 méteres lehetett, a korábban becsült akár 10 méter helyett. Szerző másik publikációja alapján ezek az állatok harcsákhoz hasonlóan nagyobb prédákat zsákmányolhattak, az eddigi cápa analógia téves.

Propatagium
A propatagium szerepet kapott kicsit a pterosauria cikkben. És bár a szó le nem lett írva, a Scansoriopterygidae-knak is elengedhetettlen részeik. Ennek a membránnak a léte nem madár Maniraptora-knál néhány lelet révén bizonyított. Publikáció alapján viszont e állatok alapvető, közös biológiai jegyei. Ez eddig is sejthető volt, ám paleoművészek is általában nem foglalkoztak ezzel a kétségesség miatt. Magyarán lehet szinte az összes raptor képet kukába dobni. Képen Deinonychus és Sapeornis látható, feltételezhető propatagium mérettel. Csuklók által feltételezhetően bezárt szög révén meg lehet becsülni ennek a membránnak nagyságát. Ám nagyon erőteljes feltételes mód miatt elég tág, hogy mekkora membránnal lehet ábrázolni számos állatot.

Erszényes farkas kihalásáról…
… és esetleges létezéséről? Szóval tökéletes példa, hogy a kriptozoológiának mért kellene a rendes tudomány részeként léteznie és ne sarlatánok homokozójának hagyni. Ez egy rendes publikáció, nem fantazmagóriák kergetése.
Mint látható 2000 utáni beszámolókat is figyelembe vettek, ám valószínűség/valószínűtlenségi számításokon át lettek vezetve. Ez alapján az állat 1980 körül halhatott ki, legkésőbb 2000 környékén. Nagyon kicsi rá az esély, hogy még élhetnek példányok délnyugati területeken.

Ető’ most olcsó’b lesz a kenyé’?!
Kínai szíl(fa) vagyis Ulmus parvifolia ősét írták le. Az U. palaeoparvifolia alapján következtetni lehet a kínai szílre mi vár a jövőben. 2100-ra jelenlegi trendek alapján ez a fa erősen vissza szorul Qinling területre. Ma ez a növény nem fenyegetett, de kevesebb, mint száz év múlva már erőfeszítések kellenek a megőrzésére.
Újabb példa, hogy az őslénytan segíthet előre jelezni dolgokat.

Mért érdekes a rovar nyamnyogás?
Kora paleocéni rovar táplálkozási nyomok növényekről, Belgiumból. 780 mintát vizsgáltak a Gelinden fosszilis növényzetből. Más hasonló korú lelőhelyeken talált ilyen leletek alapján a táplálék háló alsó szintjeit a kréta végi kihalás kevésbé érintette, mint Észak-Amerikában. Gelinden esetén kétszer-háromszor több táplálkozási nyom fordul elő. Természetesen nem csak az az opció, hogy a bolygó más részeit kevésbé érintette a kihalás, az is lehet, hogy ezeken a területeken gyorsabb volt a helyreállási folyamat.

Zárvatermőkről
Utóbbi pár év nagyon termékeny volt a zárvatermőkkel kapcsolatban. A kora krétai megjelenést lehet kukába dobni. Noha a Nanjinganthus vita tárgya volt, hogy zárvatermő volt-e. Mivel fosszília felnyitása esetén sérül és torzul az eredmény. Hála Micro-CT-nek roncsolás nélkül vizsgálható és valóban kora jurai zárvatermő. Tehát a zárvatermők sokkal korábban megjelentek, mint ahogy a köztudatba beégett.

Kavarás a madaraknál
Publikáció a Longipterygidae-król szól melyek Avialae-ek, tehát még nem minősülnek madárnak. E család táplálkozásáról van szó, húsevők leginkább rovarevők lehetettek. Ami miatt kiemeltem, hogy már a publikáció címében Aves-nek vannak besorolva. Azt eléggé látni kell, hogy jó pár nagyon madárszerű dinoszaurusz besorolása kérdéses, pl. e szerzők madárként kezelik őket, míg más szakemberek (tudtommal a többség) pedig nem madárként. Ajkak
Úgy tűnik eldőlt a vita, volt-e ajka a nem madár Theropoda-knak. Számos apró dolog, mint az állkapocs vagy a fogak kopása nem a krokodilokhoz hasonló. Hanem az ajkakkal rendelkező Squamata-kéra hasonlít. Ajak nélkülis ábrázolás a szörnyfaktoron túl annak is köszönhető, hogy a dinoszauruszok legközelebbi mai rokonai a krokodilok. (Mai fajok meg csak csőrrel rendelkeznek.) Szóval normál helyzetben nem látszódtak egy T. rex fogai. Olyan speciális esetek, mint a Spinosauridae-k más lehet. Hisz feltételezhetően a mai krokodilok nagyon távoli őseinek is ajka lehetett.

Troodonizm
Troodon tojáshéj elemzés. Lehetséges lágyabb héjról, két petefészekről. Engedjük el, hogy Troodon jelenleg érvénytelen nem. Feltételezhető lassú tojás képződés alapján, hogy egy fészket több nőstény is használt.
Vicces, hogy én a publikáció előtti héten gondolkodtam azon, van-e olyan faj minél egy fészket több nőstény is használ egyszerre. (Mai futómadarakon túl.) Vegyük ide a 7-es rövid híres “mégse falkában éltek” vagy 19-es robot dinós költéses vizsgálatot. Tehát, ha nem is vigyáztak a fiatalokra attól még élhettek falkában, sőt elég komoly összetartozást sejtet, hogy közös fészekben költöttek. Itt jön elő, hogy ellentmondó dolgok, melyek elvben kizárják egymást, pont hogy közösen alkothatják a valóságot.

Tarchia koponyasérülés
Három ázsiai Ankylosauria-t vizsgáltak, ám a Tarchia kerül kiemelésre. Koponya belső részén, orrjáratokban számos sérülés található. Csontelváltozás és gyulladás is, melyek könnyen végzetesek voltak az állatnak. Kép publikációból, CT képen a különböző sérülések láthatóak.

Újabb adalék a sarki dinoszauruszokhoz
Kakanaut formáció Oroszország egyik legészakabbi és keletebbi területén található. Felső krétai lelőhelyről két eltérő méretű, de felnőtt egyedhez tartozó hadrosauridae combcsont szövettanát vizsgálták. Az állatok noha itt éltek a sötét tél idején is, nem található olyan drasztikus eltérés, sőt alig van, szemben az alaszkai rokonaikhoz. Itteni életkörülmények télen kedvezőbbek lehettek, pl. melegebb telek. Noha nyáron 20 foknál nem lehetett melegebb.
Egy másik publikáció ugyan itt talált tojás héjakkal foglalkozik. Mineralizáció alapján kora tavasszal rakhatták le a tojásaikat. Ez is kizárja a vándorlást.
